Prof. Shafi Goldwasser
Co-founder and Chief Scientist

Prof. Shafi Goldwasser
Co-founder and Chief Scientist“I AM ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF APPLYING ADVANCES FROM CRYPTOGRAPHIC THEORY TO PRACTICE, TO ENABLE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF DATA-DRIVEN ALGORITHMS — THE COMBUSTION ENGINE OF THE FUTURE. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT COLLABORATION WHILE PROTECTING DATA, CURRENTLY HELD BY DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS, IS THE WAY TO GO.”
Prof. Goldwasser is the inventor of several revolutionary cryptographic technologies, including probabilistic encryption, multi-party secure protocols and pseudo-random functions. She was awarded the ACM Turing Award in 2012 for "for transformative work that laid the complexity-theoretic foundations for the science of cryptography, and in the process pioneered new methods for efficient verification of mathematical proofs in complexity theory”. Prof. Goldwasser has been a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1983, and in 1997 became the first holder of the RSA Professorship (named after the inventors of the first public- key cryptosystem, Rivest, Shamir and Adleman). Concurrently with her professorship at MIT, she has been a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science since 1993. Prof. Goldwasser was nominated as the director of the Simons Institute for Theory of Computation at Berkeley starting 2018. Prof. Goldwasser holds honorary degrees from Haifa university, Bar Ilan University and Ben Gurion University in Israel. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001, the National Academy of Sciences in 2004, the National Academy of Engineering in 2005, Israeli Academy of Science (2015), London Mathematical Society (2015), and the Russian Academy of Science (2016). Among Prof. Goldwasser's awards are the Godel Prizes (1993, 2001), the ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award (1996), the RSA Award In Mathematics (1998), the ACM Athena Lecturer Award (2009), the Benjamin Franklin Award in Computer and Cognitive Science (2010), IEEE Emanuel Piore Award (2011), Barnard College Medal of Distinction (2016), and Suffrage Science Award, Imperial College London(2016)

Ms. Rina Shainski
Co-founder and Chairwoman“I AM EXCITED BY THE PROMISE OF MAKING THE PRIVACY-PROTECTED UTILITY OF BIG DATA A REALITY!”
Prior to co-founding Duality, Rina was a general partner of Carmel Ventures (now Viola VC) since 2000, leading investments and serving on the boards of high-tech companies in a variety of IT areas, including mobility, cyber and digital media. Prior to Carmel, Rina held executive positions in Business Development and R&D in Tecnomatix (acquired by Siemens) and served in leadership R&D roles in several high growth technology companies in the Bay Area. Rina holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Weizmann institute and a B.Sc. in Physics from Tel Aviv University.

Prof. Kurt Rohloff
Co-founder and CTO

Prof. Kurt Rohloff
Co-founder and CTO“CONTRIBUTING TO THE TRANSITION OF ENCRYPTED COMPUTING TECHNOLOGIES FROM RESEARCH TO WIDELY APPLICABLE PRACTICAL REALITY HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE JOY.”
Prof. Rohloff is the founding architect of the PALISADE open-source homomorphic encryption library and co-founder of the HomomorphicEncryption.org industry consortium. He was previously a PI on the highly successful DARPA PROCEED program which implemented one of the first homomorphic encryption schemes. Kurt has been funded by DARPA, IARPA, DoD and the Sloan Foundation to apply encrypted computing techniques using PALISADE. Prior to co-founding Duality he was a senior scientist at Raytheon BBN Technologies. He holds a PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a B. of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He is the recipient of a DARPA Young Faculty Award.
